Just Do It

People say “I’ll try” all the time. She says, “Be on time.” You say, “I’ll try.” She says, “Be honest with me.” You say, “I’ll try.” She says, “Don’t forget to water the hibiscus, call the exterminator and feed the goldfish.” You say, “I’ll try.”
It sounds good but, we all know that usually when we say it, we mean “Look, I really like you and I don’t want to hurt your feelings but, I don’t think there’s a snowball’s chance in hell that whatever we’re talking about is actually going to happen. If the situation was completely different, if I had unlimited time and resources and I didn’t have all these other responsibilities I probably would but it’s not, I don’t and I do so no, not likely, no.”
It’s easier to say “I’ll try” but it’s not as honest. Always do your best for Her. Take a lesson from my favorite muppet, Yoda, who said, “There is no try. Try not. Do, or do not!”
And it helps if you use that funny Yoda voice when you say it.
