When Passion Becomes Habit

As a relationship matures, a certain amount of cooling is expected. The red-hot passion of a new experience calms into a comfortable companionship. Everything from the breakfast table to the bedroom, from date night to pizza Friday becomes normal, sedate and expected.
Don’t let this happen to you!
Do things that you used to do, you know, before you became an old fart. Take Her out. Walk in the rain. Kiss Her in public. Remind Her that you still find Her hot. Get Her flowers. Dance with Her. Before, back when your passion was high, you didn’t have to think about doing these things. Now, you may need to put in some effort that wasn’t required before.
But don’t think that means it doesn’t count.
There is no good reason for passion to become a victim of habit.

There is something to be said for love that transcends effort. Don’t get me wrong, I love roses as much as the next princess. I also love watching a movie in my pajamas, not doing my hair, and going to sleep without any funny business.
So, while I agree that passion (a feeling caused by the release of Dopamine upon contact with a potential mate) is fantastic, it’s a scientific fact that after 2 years it begins to wear off. The comfortable love that remains after passion is truly a mysterious and beautiful phenomenon. I believe it is something to embrace.

I always like the way You think Mariah. And, perhaps, as I’ve gotten older, passion has taken on a new meaning for me. The clinical definition notwithstanding; that special look in Her eyes still does it for me. I’ll do all I can to be sure She never forgets that She is the one and that She keeps looking at me that way.
Thanks, as always, for giving some of your time and attention to me.
      Sincerely, john

It would make me hot and bothered to have a He who cleans the toilet…not that I would mind the dancing and kissing in public. It’s just gravy!
